In India half the life is spent in the heat of the sun. The face keeps a sort of scrapbook,
to remind that it shows on our face how much life we have spent in the sun. We are
wearing it on our face in the form of lines and wrinkles. The sun-rays damage the skin
and it accelerates the normal process of aging and causes lines and wrinkles, crow’s feet and age spots.
To measure the effect of sun-rays on the body, just peel off all the clothes and stand in front of the mirror. Look at your face. Now also look at the body below the neck, the
difference is unmistakably visible to the eyes. Every ray of sunshine affects our skin. It is advisable to use sun-screen.
We fry the skin for years and we are faced with the weathered lines and wrinkles.
The remedy is to opt for a face-lift, a peel of the skin or the wrinkles filled out with
Collagen injections. Doctors prescribe topical cream like retin-A, a less drastic,
less expensive and promising alternative.
Retin-A is a topical tretinoin, a derivative of Vitamin A-that the doctors
have been using for years for treating Acne. This cream has to be applied diligently to the face, hands, and the fore-arms. It helps to recharge the dead cells, reduce the wrinkles and lines, decrease the pore size, fade age spots, and increase the blood flow to give a glow to the skin. It reverses some of the sun’s damage to the skin.
Use of Retin-A has some side effects-redness, irritation, and some peeling may occur.
Its use makes the skin ultra-sensitive to sun. It is necessary to have a sun screen every day.
It is a long term treatment. It is not an overnight miracle. You may begin to see some improvement within 10 to 15 weeks, full effect may not be seen for a year, but it should
be continued. If you stop the treatment in between, the skin may go back to the way it was before.
A natural alternative that helps to reduce lines and wrinkles is to use alpha-hydroxy acids,
five acids found in common foods like sugar-cane, sour milk, apples, pears, oranges mangoes, grapes and lemons.
All these acids help to reduce lines and wrinkles, fade age spots and improve dry skin.
Another way to remove such lines and wrinkles is to apply concentrated solution of alpha-hydroxy acids to the skin for a few minutes and then rinse off the same with water.
You may feel a little sting which indicates that a certain amount of the concentration is getting through the skin and having its effect.
If you lucky it may prove a less costly alternative to face-lift.
Although most wrinkles and lines are formed by sun-rays, some are formed by personal habits such as wrinkling the nose, frequent frowning and frequent smiling at the turn of small events. Sleep on your back. Sleeping on the side of your face causes wrinkles and
lines on your cheeks and the forehead.
Do not do facial exercises. It is a myth that they deface lines and wrinkles. The fact is such exercises do accentuate lines and wrinkles because they use the very muscles that create lines and wrinkles.
