Road to Happiness.
Oh! What is more blessed than to put all our cares away!
A life time of compulsive work no man can bear it.
It would be hell of a life.
Eight hours in sleep; in law’s grave study six,
Four spend in prayer and the rest on Nature fix.
Do not judge a man idle because he is involved in thought.
There is visible work and invisible work he may be doing.
As opposed to all this, if all the year were playing holidays,
To sport would be as tedious as to work.
I have come across many colleagues who cherish doing nothing.
There are also some compulsive people to whom time is the essence.
They must remain busy at any cost. For him unfulfilled time is
boredom. The friend who keep him busy believes he feels guilty
of wasted time. He also feels depressed because he feels himself
worthwhile only when he works. Staying busy serves
for him as an anesthetics that numbs his sense of pain. They also
reinforce his craving for stimulation.
It is good for this compulsive friend to do some reading or do nothing at times.
It will take your feelings for a while to catch up with your mind
to correct the notion to stay busy. He should practice some time to
do nothing.
Just sit in a chair for an hour near the window and enjoy the feeling of relaxation.
The key to freedom is balance and control.
