Names Citers.
Basuda in the Hindi Film Chhoti Ci Baat portrayed the character role by Asrani
as a names citer. He boasts before Amol about his Cricket
connection.
“That…that…Sunny…Suneel…Suneel Gavaskar, when we were
together..”
This is a befitting example of names citing.
We find people discussing that he and the boss were good
friends when
actually they were not.
Has anyone come to you and said that he knew a so and so
celebrity
but you already guessed it was not likely?
This behavior is known as names dropping. There is no dearth of name
droppers in the society.
They use every one and any one’s name as long as
it is convenient to their cause.
Name droppers can be easily recognized because all they do
is drop names.
They know so and so or he had dinner with who-you know?
They thrive on the names of others because they are very
insecure themselves.
They feel extremely inferior inside. It builds them up if they can believe that
they are truly friend of a rich or famous person, even if
they are not. Some
drop names to make you feel less important or for you to see
them as important.
If you know that you drop names from time to time and
exaggerate connections,
then work on your self-esteem and try to have some identity
apart from the identity of others. Your
worth is equal to all others, there is no need to add to it.
