Circumstances in life.
People are funny. They are impossible. We all know about them. People have the tendency to blame all sorts of circumstances for their shortcoming. People believe in luck. Many of them are a bundle of inconsistency. They jump the fence in no time where there is chance. They change like a weathercock. They are simply impossible.
It is agreed that luck plays a role in a man’s life. It is not true to credit or to blame luck hundred percent. To blame luck or circumstances wholly, for man’s failure or success is preposterous.
Ninety- percent perspiration and ten- percent inspiration is the proper ratio. People always blame circumstances for their ups and downs. Alone circumstances are not responsible. He has to put in his best efforts and mind. People always consider circumstances responsible for their failure or success. We see this factor everywhere. Circumstances are not responsible for man’s ups and downs to the extent they are given blame, or credit. It is our weakness if we blamed circumstances for our failure.
People shield themselves by quoting circumstances that caused their ups or downs. They hide themselves behind them. People quote different circumstances the way they want them to be. We all know about it. They are sob-sisters who grumble constantly. People, if they can not find circumstances, they make circumstances to support their case.
She was responsible for her circumstances. Her hasty nature was responsible for the mess. She wanted to change her circumstances. She had ceased to believe in luck, or miracles. Not that she had actually believed in miracles. She was a rationalist. She had strong opinion about things. Human being is a rational animal. She had always agreed with her mother’s remark who when once had asked her if she believed in luck, miracles. She had said:
She: “No, I am worried of them.”
Yet, his entrance in her life had been a miracle. By sheer luck he happened to stumble unto her. She felt she had over-reacted to his proposal. At the relevant time, she flew in air in search of a prince charming from the sky. She rejected him in a state of her being a bundle of tension. Her vanity, pride, was responsible for her behaving in such a way. She had rejected his approach without understanding the consequence. She felt she had closed the gate for further acquaintance. Her every quivering nerve was exposed. Her mechanism of automatic response to his advancement was anger, flight. Now she felt she was hasty. She should not have closed the door. She should have kept her options open. She had now waited with dumb wonderment. She was involved in suspense. Her breaking up like that was like a slap to him. It brought him to his senses. Circumstances were responsible for making them behave the way they behaved. It was a case of pride and prejudice between the two. Both were responsible for each other. He too was quite curt and obstinate and careless if, not callous on his part.
She was on a look out for a separate house for her in an attempt to change circumstances. It was time to get out of the old place and take a chance. “Change your place, Change your luck!”
To find a house in New York was as difficult as finding a job. It is proverbial to say that you find a job but not a place in New York. New York had crossed the saturation point since twenty years. New York is unmanageable. Night does not fall on New York. New York takes no sleep. New York buzzes of action for 24 hours a day. It is hard to walk on streets and roads in New York. Pavements are over flooded with pedestrians. We are hardly able to push through the crowd while walking on footpaths. It is impossible to get through hundreds of them standing in a queue waiting for a bus. Act of waiting for a bus for the thousands of them standing in queue is an important event for them rather than reaching home and spending night in cubbyhole of a home. Here they move with the city. They moved with the wind and air they longed to breathe. The house was a prison. Life exists on roads in New York. People are almost on the roads, and hardly indoors. To learn something is important. Most people never learn this basic principle. It is a sin to waste your time in unnecessary ifs and buts of your mind. People have to learn to make a way out of everything that happens to them.
A little clear thinking, unbiased, based on reason is necessary. No body does it. It can solve most of our day to day problems. You would not believe it. A little common sense can solve a very complex problem. But nobody likes easy way.
A calm and cool mind can solve any difficult situation. You have to try it. It is an ill bird that betrays its nest.
There is nothing, nothing more precious than Time. Time passed is life passed. People feel they have abundant of time with them. They waste their life. Do not make this folly. You will only live to regret it. Nobody takes time seriously.
Wasted hours days destroy your life just as surely at the beginning, as at the end. At the end of the life, wasted hours become more obvious. You cannot do anything then. No man lives so poor as he was born. It is true in some rare cases fortune appears to have favored the fools. A sleeping cat catches no mice. Where there is a will, there is a way. Ups and downs come alternately. A good marksman may miss. A good swimmer often drowns. A good cab-driver makes a folly. God helps those who help themselves. Amongst men and women, some are jewels; some are pebbles. Society represents good and bad element. But in the end, the rogue is at last, at length out-rouged. That is justice. Truth prevails. That is the law of Almighty.
Try to analyze what you hear. Listening is an important aspect of life. People have the habit to forget what they heard, taking it lightly. Do not make this mistake. These are facts of life, never take them lightly. Go on refreshing your memory whenever you are free. Do not allow your mind to rest. A good memory is an asset. You can memorize names, figures, and numbers, anything by constant practice.
Some possess good memory for names. Some have good memory for numbers. Memory can be cultivated by efforts. You must know names of all your classmates. You meet him after thirty years you must call him by his first name.
You have to train your mind to remember names, details, and description, significant features of an individual etc. A successful executive has to practice lessons in committing names of fellow beings by heart. Without effort he should call him by his name. Half the battle is won. He is on your side.
You have to train your brain to commit to memory certain important factors. You have to continuously renew your lessons lest you might forget. Have no mercy on the brain. Keep it busy. Refresh it with new and new things. Learn and remember. Do not allow the mind to be idle. Idle mind is Devil’s workshop. Put it to work. Any work. Ask the mind to recollect names of all your friends’ classmates’ right from childhood. Ask the mind the details of the last visitor in your office. What was he wearing? Describe him. Had he any special characteristics?
A good part of life comes from Money. Money is a good servant; a bad master. All want it. It is good when money works for you. Money makes the mare go. All sorts of crime are committed for money. Money game has made many mad. Commercial adventure, dash and address are pre-requisites of a good businessman. Count like the Jews. Agree like brothers. Where two cats fight for the sweet, the monkey gulps it under the pretext of doing justice. It needs two for a quarrel. Friends are many when the purse is full. That which is written, is read. Opt for an unjust peace than a just war. Better bow than break. No flying without wings.
A good part of life comes from power. Power is the crux; All run to the center of power. It is the biggest intoxicant. Power is a pretty toy. Power combined with a network of relation built over generation can achieve any impossible height. Power is everything. No drug, cocaine morphine, alcohol spirit, matches the effect of power intoxication. Absolute power corrupts. Excessive power breeds contempt. Power can’t be given up.
A good part of life comes from willingness. You have to put life in what you have been doing. Mindless pursuit of an object yields no results. Our mind is a muscle like any other muscles in the body. It can be trained taught worked upon charged recharged overcharged pressurized taxed burdened used reused overused in order to bring it to a level of perfection. Rigorous exercise to the mind has caused wonderful results. Keep it engaged by constant supervision and monitoring what it is doing.
She had not failed to see these. She was a sensible observant being. She heard the other girls talk about it in crude words, in crude language. You can beat the camel and lead him to the brook. She believed. You can not make the camel drink the water unless it has the willingness to drink.
Her mind was a jumble of truth and non-sense about everything. Most of it was out of her imagination exaggeration, and speculation. The girls were heard telling many things. She did not believe them. Man and woman did just like dogs and animals. To her it had not seemed dignified. She did not believe them. We do things, which do not seem dignified but we have been doing it.
Take the example of the bees and the flowers, animals, plants, everything. This is the theory of reproduction. We multiply and go on increasing. There is nothing to be ashamed about it. It takes generations to multiply and increase. Human race is no exception. Every day it increases in huge numbers. It is the theory of reproduction. Life exists by production reproduction multi production and so on. When she had learnt about this, she was shocked. She was unknown to facts of life. But after she had got over her first reaction about all this, she had liked to find someone who would give straight answers. Till then she kept her secrets to herself. Marriage is based on myth and false hopes. It is triumph of hope over other peoples’ experience. One man with one woman is tied for the life. She realized. Thereafter they repent and feel their life a waste. Both feel the monotony frustration of life. Both feel caged entrapped in matrimony. Both want to get out of the cage in haste. The young ones jump into marriage in haste. They repent in waste. It is a one way street. You have to pay a heavy fine to get out of it.
Love is blind. It does not see caste or creed or
community. Love happens; it is close to home.
