Mother Terasa.

Mother Teresa. (1910-1997)

“Be faithful in small things,
Because, it is in them that your strength lies.”

“Being unwanted, unloved, uncared for, forgotten by everybody is a much
greater hunger, a much greater poverty than a person who has nothing to eat.”

“Do not wait for Leaders; do it alone person to person.”
“Each of them is Jesus in disguise.”

“Even the rich are hungry of love for being cared for,
for being wanted, for having someone to call their own.”

“Every time you smile at some one, it is an action of love,
a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.”

“God does not require us to succeed; He wants us to try.”

She came to India at an young age of 19 in the year 1929 at the,
Catholic Church at Darjeeling to devote herself to the Church as a nun. She also served as a teacher in a convent school in East Calcutta. She was extremely disturbed at the sight of the poor and the down-trodden, and the poverty surrounding her in Calcutta.

The Bengal famine in the year 1943 brought death and misery to the city. The out-break
of communal violence between Hindus and Muslims, in August 1946, plunged the city into despair and horror. She dedicated herself to the cause of serving the needy and the poor and ventured into the slums of the city. She opened a school in Motijhil and she devoted herself to the needs of the poor, the destitute and the starving. She opened missionaries to care for the hungry, naked, the homeless, the crippled, the blind, the lame, and all other people who felt unwanted, uncared, unloved, and felt themselves a burden on the society.
She had started with a team of 13 of her close associates as volunteers which today consists of 4000 nuns running the orphan houses, charity centers world wide.

In the year 1952 she opened a home for the dying in the Kali-Ghat temple. Those unhappy ones brought over there were given medical care attention and treatment as required. Those unlucky ones who had no chance of cure and recovery were given a decent opportunity to die with dignity by a decent burial. She open up various leprosy care centers providing medication, bandages and the food for the victims. She created homes for rehabilitation of lost children as a haven for orphans and the homeless youth.

Her missionary work attracted the attention of world dignitary. The flow of help in kind and cash and huge consignments of medical aid poured in at her disposal. Her missionary centers expanded to Venezuela, Rome, Tanzania Austria and dozens of other countries in Asia, Africa Europe and the USA. By the year 1996 she was operating 620 missions in more than 130 countries.

She had an accidental fall in 1997 March and broke her collar-bone. She remained ill for a while and succumbed to the injury in September 1997. Her death was mourned through out the world with rich homage from the world dignitary, world over for her loss of life.
Her missionary work in Kolkata is being looked after now by Sister Nirmala.

In the year 1979, she was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace for work undertaken in the struggle to overcome poverty and distress of the needy and the abused. She refused the
ceremonial Nobel Prize Banquet being held in honour of the Nobel Laureates and asked that the sum of US $ 1,92000 be given to the cause for the poor in India.

Long Live Mother Teresa and her noble mission be an inspiration to all.
